Changes
by Stephanie Faith Scott, Nov. 2, 1994
Everything changes in its own way:
As the lifeless water smashes
against the lifeless rocks,
the rocks smoothen;
As the lifeless pencil sharpener
devours the pencil,
the point narrows;
Animals grow, fatten, change colors,
change homes. Animals die.
People mature, age, grow, and shrink.
People change their feelings.
People die.
Plants grow tall, change colors,
change shape,
Leaves fall, Plants die,
But they come back,
Unlike us and animals.
Seasons change, and this one is fall.
But before you know it,
winter will come, winter will come.
